JERUSALEM, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) — An Israeli soldier was killed after being rammed by a semi-trailer truck driven by a Palestinian man in the West Bank on Wednesday, the Israeli military said in a statement.
Video footage on social networks showed the fuel truck, which Israel claimed was driven by an Al-Eil Isa Abd al-Jabbar Deif Allah from the town of Rafat near central West Bank’s city of Ramallah, accelerating toward soldiers stationed outside the Israeli settlement of Givat Assaf near Ramallah and hitting one of them.
A 24-year-old soldier named Geri Gideon Hanghal was killed during “operational activity,” according to the Israeli military. The military added that the driver was shot by troops and an armed civilian.
The driver was later taken to a hospital, according to a report by Israel’s state-owned Kan TV news.
No group has so far assumed responsibility for the incident, which occurred amid Israel’s continuous raids across the West Bank and an over-11-month Israeli-Palestinian conflict in Gaza. ■
